What should you do if your car breaks down?

No matter how much attention is put on a car to maintain it, an occasion will arise when it breaks down on the road. This could be on high street, a motorway or even an obscure country lane far from any other cars and people for that matter. This is why many drivers put the time and effort to find breakdown insurance. This type of assistance may or may not be part of a normal car insurance policy so extra care needs to be taken when conducting your search. Of course it is always an advantage when a car insurance policy does include break down cover as well.

There are many points to consider on a breakdown insurance policy such as knowing what the highest number of drivers can be put on the policy, how long the service might take to reach the driver incase of a breakdown or if the policy only covers your car to be taken to a garage and not actually repaired on the spot.

A practice that is being introduced by car insurance and break down insurance companies is the hiring of outside help. For instance if a driver calls in because he or she has had a break down and requires road side assistance, the company will call the nearest garage to the driver and make arrangements for that garage to send some assistance. If the garage only serves by towing the car in, the driver will have to pay for the repairs themselves and afterwards request a reimbursement from the car insurance/breakdown insurance company. This is a long winded and tiresome process, so actively researching the details of each policy is very important.
